Bagatown's Key Hand

A winding corner that preserves the remnants of the castle town

The "Kagenote" remaining in Fukuro-machi is a vestige of Matsumoto Castle Town's defensive structure, designed to block enemy intrusion by bending roads at right angles. This shape, created to obstruct sightlines and hinder progress, was commonly found in samurai districts and key points throughout the castle town. Today, it blends into a quiet corner of the townscape, subtly conveying the atmosphere of that era. It is a place where you can feel the wisdom and history of the castle town, something only truly appreciated on foot.
