Shiogama Shrine
A shrine dedicated to good fortune and safe childbirth, protected by the god who bestowed the wisdom of salt-making
This shrine was established as a branch of Shiogama Shrine, the principal shrine of Mutsu Province, and enshrines the deity Shiotokoro-no-Mikoto. He is said to be the god who taught people how to make salt. He is also revered as the god of safe childbirth, scholarship, longevity, good health, traffic safety, and protection from misfortune and the bringing of good fortune.
Within the shrine grounds, a “bottomless ladle” has been dedicated as a prayer for safe childbirth, while roadside shrines and poetry stones quietly watch over the people.
