Takahashi Residence
Experience the Edo period at one of the few remaining samurai residences
The Takahashi Residence is one of the few surviving samurai residences in Matsumoto City. Originally a government-owned residence for samurai of the Matsumoto domain, it was restored in 2009 to its late Edo to early Meiji period appearance and is now open to the public as a branch of the Matsumoto City Museum. Stepping
inside, the daily life of Edo-period samurai comes vividly to life.The wooden beam framework conveys the precision of the construction techniques of that era. The layout of each room and the furnishings breathe the daily life of the samurai throughout the space. Walking along the corridors, the quiet scent of old building materials lingers, enveloping you in the atmosphere of that time.This building has quietly witnessed the turbulent times from the late Edo period to the early Meiji era. Restored to more closely resemble its original state, it stands as a valuable witness to Matsumoto's history. Admission
