Shōrinji Temple
A temple founded during the Muromachi period where the history of the warrior class lives on
Founded in the mid-Muromachi period and established as the ancestral temple of Lord Ogasawara Nagatoki in 1583, this historic temple has a rich history. Though temporarily abandoned during the Meiji-era anti-Buddhist movement, it was later restored and now maintains a tranquil presence as a Zen temple directly affiliated with Eiheiji.Within its grounds lies the grave of Kawashima Yoshiko, known as the "beautiful woman in men's clothing," conveying the diverse history spanning the late medieval to modern periods. Despite its proximity to the city center, it is enveloped in tranquility, offering a spot where one can sense the vestiges of the past and the characteristic serenity of a Zen temple.
