The Jizō Statue Where the Legend of the Lending Neck Remains

Originally known as Chōgenji Temple, later as Kenzūji Temple, this is the site of a former temple. The Jizō statue known as the "Borrow-a-Head Jizō" remaining within the grounds is said to have been brought here from Mikawa Province by Mizuno Tadakiyo, lord of Matsumoto Castle. A tragic tale of a child who sacrificed itself as a substitute led to the spread of a belief where people "borrow the head to pray" for recovery from illness. Even today, it remains a place where many people come to pray.
