XiXi, Dance with Me: Matsumoto Cinema Select Screening
Directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Wu Fan in her feature film debut, this documentary captures the bond between her and XiXi, a unique Chinese dancer she met by chance in Berlin, portraying the vibrant, authentic lives of these two women.
While studying in Europe from Taiwan, director Wu Fan met XiXi, a Chinese contemporary dancer, in Berlin. Deeply captivated by XiXi’s dance, which resembled that of a free bird, Fan began filming her daily life. To Fan’s eyes, XiXi—who continued her journey searching for her free spirit while wandering Europe as a dancer—appeared as beautiful as a wild bird unafraid to take flight.Meanwhile, XiXi stayed in touch with her ex-husband, Mederick, and lavished her love on her daughter, Nina, whom she was allowed to see occasionally. Eventually, Fan’s camera began to capture the deep wounds of the past hidden within XiXi’s life. This, in turn, became the catalyst for Fan himself to confront his own family trauma.
