The ultimate tragic love story by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, where duty and passion collide
Kinoshita Kabuki (nicknamed “Kinokabu”) sheds new light on Kabuki plays from a contemporary perspective. This special, accessible version of *Shinju: Ten no Amijima*—a production that has garnered enthusiastic support from fans of both modern theater and classical performing arts and has been repeatedly revived by Kinokabu—is now being presented.Renowned as Chikamatsu Monzaemon’s masterpiece, this production is a musical drama that has garnered acclaim for its ability to deeply move audiences through director Yukinosuke Itoi’s original songs—which he wrote and composed himself—and director Yuichi Kinoshita’s meticulous adaptation of the original text.Building upon the 2015 premiere and the 2017 ROHM Theatre Kyoto (“Creation of Repertoire”) production, this work has been further refined. With accessibility features integrated as standard, it is being recreated anew under the production of the Matsumoto Performing Arts Center. Please look forward to it!
