Zacken! Matsumoto Cinema Select Screening

Based on the manga *Zakken!* (published by Shogakukan)—created by screenwriter and film director Naho Uemura and the scriptwriting team "Monogatari Lab" using the real-life "Weed Research Club" at Tokyo Metropolitan Hibiya High School as inspiration—this coming-of-age story was adapted into a film with Uemura herself serving as both screenwriter and director. It delicately and vividly portrays a teenage girl struggling to find herself, who eventually discovers her true identity through the weeds growing at her feet—weeds she had previously ignored.

It is spring of her first year of high school. Yukari Sugino, an ordinary girl who isn’t passionate about anything and simply goes through her days, meets her classmate Mimi Tokuda—nicknamed “Dokudami-chan”—who loves weeds and is captivated by their vitality. Yukari gradually opens her heart to Mimi, who is a bit eccentric but has a sincere and pure heart.Dokudami-chan longs to revive the “Zakken”—short for the “Weed Research Club.” Though initially bewildered by her enthusiasm, Yukari eventually joins her in the effort to bring the club back to life…
