Shakado
A small shrine enshrining a seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha from the Kamakura period
The Shakado Hall at Azusa River enshrines a seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, believed to be a single-wood carving from the early Kamakura period. Designated as a Matsumoto City Important Cultural Property, the statue has been cherished and protected by the local community. In spring, weeping cherry blossoms bloom before the hall, adding soft color to the tranquil precincts. It is a serene place of worship where history and nature harmonize.
