Senokashira Shrine

The rare coexistence of main halls born from territorial division

Senjokashira Shrine, dedicated to the Senjokashira deity, has deep ties to Suwa faith. Following the division of its territory between Matsumoto Domain and Takashima Domain in 1618, it acquired its unique structure with two main halls placed side by side. The main hall, completed in 1715 through a donation by Suwa Tadatora, lord of Takashima Castle, is a valuable surviving structure demonstrating the architectural style of Suwa craftsmen from the late 17th to early 18th centuries. As Senkashirayama Forest Park

, it offers a viewpoint overlooking the Northern Alps, and visitors can also enjoy the cherry blossoms and azaleas around Senkashira Pond, as well as wild birds like kingfishers.
