Traveling and Painting: Landscape Prints by Basui Kawase and Hiroshi Yoshida
The “Shin-hanga” movement, which flourished from the Taisho to the Showa periods, produced many works centered on travel and landscapes.
In particular, Kawase Hasui and Hiroshi Yoshida traveled throughout Japan—and at times even abroad—to create landscape paintings based on sketches made from life.
This exhibition traces the artistic careers of these two artists, focusing on their representative series. Please enjoy these works, which utilize traditional woodblock printing techniques while pursuing new forms of expression.
