Matsumoto City Historical Village
Introducing Matsumoto's Historic Buildings
Matsumoto City History Village is an open-air museum featuring historical buildings from the late Edo period through the Showa era.
Walking through the grounds, you'll find buildings from multiple eras standing side by side: the Important Cultural Property courthouse built in 1908, the female workers' lodging along the Nomugi Highway, the former juvenile detention center, and the silk mill. As you explore each building, the scent of weathered wood and the warmth of architecture imbued with history wash over you. The lives of those who once lived here are palpable everywhere, bringing the spaces back to life with the breath of that era.Furthermore, through exhibits like Shigeo Yamamoto's "Ah, Nomugi Pass," the story of Yoshiko Kawashima, and the experience of Siberian detention, you can gain a deep understanding of the entire modern history Shinshu has traversed. In one
place, you encounter the full panorama of Shinshu's modern history. Here lies such a rare and precious experience. If you visit Matsumoto, please make your way here.
