Norikura Hill Climb 2026

The "Norikura Hill Climb," held on the Norikura Echo Line—the bicycle path closest to the sky

The first event was held in 1986 (Showa 61), with 470 participants.Last year marked the 40th anniversary, and the event has grown into a competition attracting 4,000 participants. It is a hill climb race held on the “Norikura Echo Line,” a road that passes through Japan’s highest point (2,716 m). Riders start at the Norikura Tourism Association and pedal continuously toward the finish line at the prefectural border between Nagano and Gifu.

It has gained popularity as the highest-altitude bicycle race in Japan and is even referred to as a mecca for hill climbs. During the race, participants can enjoy the magnificent views of the Northern Alps, rich in natural beauty. The event helps promote Norikura and Matsumoto City to a wider audience while contributing to the revitalization of the local community.
