Kobo-zan Kofun
An ancient burial mound with a panoramic view of the Northern Alps
Built during the early Kofun period, this front-rear rectangular tumulus has a total length of 62 meters. It was constructed at the tip of a hill—which rises approximately 60 meters from its base to its summit—with the front section facing northwest.
Standing atop the mound, the view extends over 200 degrees from east to north to west, offering an open vista that, on clear days, allows visitors to see as far as the Northern Alps—a truly captivating sight. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom all around the burial mound, creating a landscape where the historical setting harmonizes with the vibrant colors of the flowers. With walking trails and information boards in place, it is a peaceful tourist spot where visitors can stroll while reflecting on the history of Matsumoto.
