Kobo-yama Tumulus
An ancient burial mound offering a panoramic view of the Northern Alps
Built during the early Kofun period, this keyhole-shaped tumulus features a rectangular mound measuring 62 meters in total length. It was constructed at the tip of a hill that rises approximately 60 meters from its base to its summit, with the front section facing northwest.
Standing atop the mound, the view extends over 200 degrees from east to north and west, offering an open vista that is particularly captivating on clear days, when the Northern Alps can be seen in the distance. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom all around the burial mound, creating a landscape where the historical scenery harmonizes with the colors of the flowers. With walking paths and information boards in place, it is a quiet tourist spot where visitors can stroll while reflecting on the history of Matsumoto.
