We are hosting a field trip to view cultural properties at Shirahone Onsen
Deep within the forests of Shirahone Onsen lies a landscape of oddly shaped, bumpy terrain. These formations are known as “fumaroles” and have been designated as a National Special Natural Monument under the name “The Fumaroles and Spherical Limestone of Shirahone Onsen.”
We will hold a field trip to explore the formation and geology of these Hakone Onsen fumaroles, incorporating the nearby Norikura Highlands into the tour.
We are pleased to once again welcome Professor Tsutomu Otsuka of Shinshu University as our instructor. He will give a presentation indoors, followed by an on-site tour and commentary.
Please note that some content will overlap with the Shirahone Onsen field trip held in fiscal year 2017.
