Kappa Bridge
The breathtaking view from the wooden suspension bridge, a symbol of Kamikochi
Kappa Bridge is a symbol of Kamikochi, a wooden suspension bridge at an elevation of 1,500 meters. Originally a swing bridge, it was replaced with a suspension bridge in 1910 (Meiji 43). After undergoing several renovations, the current bridge is the fifth iteration, rebuilt in 1997 (Heisei 9).Standing
on the bridge, you see the clear, flowing Azusa River below your feet, and feel the sway of the suspension bridge beneath you. Willow and larch trees along the riverbank shimmer in the sunlight, and you can also see Mount Yakedake, occasionally emitting wisps of steam. The view from the bridge encapsulates the very essence of Kamikochi's beauty. Though an artificial structure, the wooden suspension bridge, replaced from the original springboard bridge, harmonizes with the grand nature and leaves a deep impression on visitors. The scenery of Kamikochi unfolds, changing its expression by the hour, by the day, and by the season, from
the spring opening to the winter closing. Experience the beauty of Kamikochi from this bridge.
