Nishisōbori Earthen Rampart Park
Historic site where the earthen ramparts of Matsumoto Castle's outer moat remain
This park preserves the remains of an earthen rampart built along the western side of the moat that once surrounded Matsumoto Castle during the Edo period. Excavations have confirmed the presence of this rampart, whose elevation differences remain visible today, allowing visitors to appreciate the defensive ingenuity of the time and the extent of the castle town.Its charm lies in the green-covered earthen slopes and walking paths that continue through a quiet environment, perfect for strolling while reflecting on history. Information boards are also installed, providing an opportunity to learn about the castle's structure and role. It's a tranquil walking spot worth visiting alongside exploring the town around Matsumoto Castle.
