Old-Style High School Memorial Hall
A wooden Western-style building from the Taisho period, where you can learn about the history of modern education in Japan.
The Old High School Memorial Hall, located within Agata Forest Park at the Matsumoto City Museum, opened in 1993. As a facility introducing the history and culture of old-system high schools, it richly displays materials related to such schools nationwide. The
hall houses numerous valuable historical materials on modern education, including the history of the former Matsumoto High School dating back to the Taisho era, school life at that time, and educational content. The building itself is also noteworthy. The main building and auditorium, representative wooden Western-style structures from the Taisho period, were designated Important Cultural Properties on June 18, 2007. They are also valuable in the history of school architecture. Against the backdrop of these historically
preserved structures, alongside Himalayan cedars, visitors can learn about Japan's modern history from both educational and architectural perspectives.
