Nomugi Old Trail Hike (Half-Day)
Nomugi Old Trail Hike (Half-Day) (Nagawa/Iriyama Area)
Located in the mountainous region connecting Matsumoto and Takayama, we visit an abandoned village that once thrived as a post town along the main highway supporting Japan’s logistics network, and explore the lifestyle of the past.
As you walk through this compact settlement—where homes, fields, spring water, an elementary school, and inns are all clustered together—you’ll experience a strange sensation, as if you can almost feel the breath of life from the past. In the latter half of the tour, we’ll head up to the “Matsuda House,” a quiet, high-class inn that stands in seclusion. There, as you listen to tales from a local storyteller, what do you feel when comparing the past to the present?
This interactive tour invites participants to reflect together on the meaning of the storyteller’s words: “We didn’t have money, but we were happier back then.”
*For this tour, we will serve a small portion of local cuisine and tea at the traditional inn. Please enjoy the atmosphere of the past while savoring locally sourced food in this special setting.
