In Matsumoto, water from snowmelt in the nearby Japan Alps slowly flows underground, springing up here and there around town, and there are many wells where residents get that water for coffee, cooking, and more. Designated by the country as one of the “Selected 100 Exquisite and Well-conserved Waters”, it was also awarded third place in the “Wonderful Water in a Tourist Area” ranking in 2015.
