Nakamachi Street

中町通り
118

Nakamachi Street is known for its traditional storehouses, called kura, which are characterized by their black-and-white, criss-cross patterned walls. This beautiful street is also a popular shopping area where you can buy Japanese handicrafts, such as pottery, lacquerware, and wooden crafts. There are many cafes, restaurants, and soba shops, as well, so it is a great place to search for a place to eat.

The landmark of Nakamachi is the Kurassic-kan, a restored sake warehouse that is now open to the public for viewing and often used for events and exhibitions. You will also find several natural springs and wells along the street. The Matsumoto Scale Museum may also be of interest.

See the Tourist Guide Leaflet for a list of shops, restaurants, and more.
