Free “Amazake (甘酒)” service on April 3rd
Amazake is a traditional sweet non- alcohol drink made from fermented rice. Japanese people have been fond of “Amazake (甘酒)” for a very very long time. The first record of “Amazake” was found in “Nihon Shoki (日本書記)” , the second oldest history book written about 1,300 years ago. Since then “Amazake” is a part of Japanese life, it is sold at every grocery stores in town, or sometimes people make their own amazake from rice mixing with Aspergillus oryzae (麹).
With the celebration of Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Festival), there will be a free “Amazake” service for visitors at Matsumoto City Museum (right next to Matsumoto Castle), Matsumoto City Museum of Measurement Instrument on Nakamachi Street, and Baba residence in Uchida District on April 3rd Wednesday.
While enjoying this traditional warm drink, guests can browse some traditional “oshie – bina” dolls collection displayed in Matsumoto City Museum in the castle.
