Signs that Autumn is arriving in Matsumoto (September)

Dear Matsumoto Fans,
How are you?

I know many of you are wondering wether it’s worth it or not to visit Matsumoto in September.
In fact, the chances of facing a typhoon and rainy weather are not low, the high season with festivals and dances is over by now, and September is just not a holiday month.

However, Summer in Matsumoto starts late and ends late as well. September marks end of summer and beginning of Autumn and here are some things you can enjoy:

The colors of the sky

Which becomes less blue and a bit more grey, sunset is also pinker than usual.
I recommend finding a terrace (like the terrace of Matsumoto Brewery or RK parks to enjoy!)

Autumn Leaves

Whereas it’s early for koyo (the famous red leaves of Autumn in Japan) you can start noticing some falling leaves.

Seasonal Food

Like pumpkin, shishamo, and chukaman (this little steamed bread you can buy at every conbini, this one has sesame inside).

This one is homemade pumpkin cake with Japanese plum soda from Tipsy Cafe in Nawate Street.

Tsukimi

The full moon of September, which is also celebrated by food chains selling special tsukimi (月見 looking at the moon) dishes (tsukimi burger, tsukimi cake, tsukimi udon and more).

Seasonal Rice Wine

From Masumi, one of the biggest sake breweries in Nagano prefecture. You can find this in supermarkets in Matsumoto and Suwa.

Will you visit Matsumoto this September?
