Fukashi Shrine Annual Grand Festival: Tenjin Festival
A traditional festival that heralds the arrival of summer in Matsumoto, Shinshu.
Sixteen magnificent floats, designated as Important Tangible Cultural Properties of Matsumoto City, gather together on the shrine grounds once a year.
Early in the morning on the day of the festival, the floats are paraded out and placed throughout the town; in the evening, during the “Yoi-matsuri” (evening festival), they are paraded back into the grounds of Fukashi Shrine.
About 70 lively night stalls are packed tightly together, and the area bustles with visitors until late at night.
