"In the End, Coffee" Screening at Matsumoto Cinema Select
A humorous yet bittersweet dialogue-driven drama chronicling the two months leading up to the closure and relocation of “Kohaze Coffee,” a small, real-life café in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. Inspired by the desire of the café’s manager, Ryuji Tanigawa—who moved the business to a new location in May 2025—to preserve the old shop, where he had operated for 18 years, on film, actor and director Jun Hosoi wrote the screenplay and directed the film adaptation.
"Kohaze Coffee," a coffee shop long beloved in Shimokitazawa, continues to operate at its own pace as the manager, veteran part-timer Shimada, and new part-timer Sudo run the place, even as they prepare to relocate. Regular customer Aoki has made it a routine to spend his work breaks here alone.Among the other regulars—Takeda, Tsukamoto, and Ito—and the staff, a variety of slightly peculiar relationships begin to form, and as a result, there are things within Aoki that change and things that remain the same.
