Freedom: Art exhibition in Matsumoto
On the main street that goes from the station to Agata no Mori, among many cafes and shop, there is an art supply shop with an exposition space where art exhibitions are held on occasion.
On Saturday I visited “Kimama Freedom”, an exhibition by two artists who are also friends: Yokota Noriko and Yamaguchi June.
Tile artist Yokota Noriko imports tile from abroad and from Tajimi (especially Showa tiles which were popular in baths). She cuts them and creates her composition starting from the color.
Here she created a pop representation of Matsumoto castle (the part of the castle from where you can see the moon)
This is mount Fuji
This sun is a fan favorite!
This work of hers was hosted in a gallery in London. She chose some popular shapes to represent Japan.
All her works are colorful and uplifting!
This work represent opening doors anew after covid!
Yamaguchi June works with old cotton kimono. To avoid throwing them away, she uses those cloths and shapes them into floral decorations.
If you look closely you will notice the patterns of the original kimono.
This particular work was created by using aizome, a typical Japanese style of cloth dye.
She recently started to create pouring art works which she decided to display today as well.
With these painting she wanted to create more freely.
She also displayed one work abroad, in Paris at Japan Expo.
The exhibition is over but you can find their works online, look up:
