The eastern area is characterized by the Utsukushigahara Highlands, which rise 2,000 meters above the city and are covered in lush forests. In the foothills not far from the city, you will find one of Nagano's largest grape growing and wine production areas as well as the popular hot spring resort areas of Asama Hot Springs and Utsukushigahara Hot Springs.
