Yamahei [CLOSED]

This shop has permanently closed since October 2023.
Housed in a traditional kura warehouse on Nakamachi Street, Yamahei has been open since 1918. Here you can find unique local goodies such as pickles, honey, and a kind of sweet-and-salty “snack” called tsukudani which is made by cooking meat, vegetables, seaweed, and even insects (!) in soy sauce and mirin. The shop owner will gladly help explain the items in friendly yet somewhat broken English and offer you samples of some of the food items.
