Shinmito
Kaiundo was opened over 130 years ago. They traditionally made Japanese sweets but now make western-style confections as well. The “Honten,” or main shop, is a newer building that was opened in 1998. The most popular sweets are Shinmito, a kind of Japanese taffy with walnuts, honey, and sugar. This confection is used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Dorayaki, a type of Japanese baked sweet which consists of two small pancakes filled with sweet red bean paste, is popular too. You can watch a video on how to produce Dorayaki at the shop.

Besides the delectable treats, another fun aspect about this shop is their ice cream serving robot (supposedly the only one in the world)! This robotic arm is coin-operated and can make you the perfect cone of soft-serve ice cream. Also, the flavor changes every day.
