The Suzuki pedagogical method, named after its creator, Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki, aims at grooming young children into accomplished, responsible and loving adults through an astute mix of classical music study (esp. the violin) and core principles such as starting at a young age, repetition, and involving the children’s parents. Since its inception in 1945 at his Talent Education School in Matsumoto, the method spread around the globe after children from Suzuki’s school began violin concert tours in the U.S.
During your stay in Matsumoto, you might pay a visit to the Suzuki Shinichi Memorial Hall, the modest house where he developed and fine-tuned his teaching methods. To get a feel of how it might work for your children, also visit the Talent Education Institute (3-10-15 Fukashi, Google Map), where you can observe group lessons and enjoy student concerts.
