Along with its excellent ski runs, this ski resort offers breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains including Mt. Norikuradake, the Hotake Mountain Range, and Japan’s second tallest active volcano—Mt. Ontake. The ski resort is set at elevations between 1,400 and 2,180 meters, blessing it with the prime conditions for top snow quality. With some luck, you may also be able to see a sea of clouds here while you’re skiing.
The highlight of Nomugi’s ski area is its 4-kilometer-long descent. You can choose from 12 different pistes ranging from the very easy to the extremely demanding, depending on your level. One slope is a Japanese Ski Federation-approved, high difficulty run while another is an easy sledding slope. After you’ve had an active day running down the slopes and playing in the snow, enjoy one of the many hot springs or perhaps enjoy the local specialty, a hot pot of tojisoba.
