Matsumoto City will introduce an Accommodation Tax for stays from June 1, 2026.

Revenue from this tax will be used to enhance Matsumoto's appeal as an international cultural tourism city, encourage visits from Japan and overseas, and promote sustainable tourism that benefits both visitors and local residents.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

What is the Accommodation Tax:

The Accommodation Tax is charged to guests staying at hotels, ryokan, and other accommodation facilities in Matsumoto City.

  • JPY 200 per person per night (including JPY 100 for the Nagano Prefectural Accommodation Tax)
  • From June 1, 2029: JPY 300 per person per night (including JPY 150 for the Nagano Prefectural Accommodation Tax)

The Accommodation Tax is exempt in the following cases:

The accommodation charge (room rate only, excluding consumption tax) is less than JPY 6,000 per person per night.

  • Guests participating in eligible school educational activities, certified regional club activities, or events organized by childcare facilities, provided the required certificate is submitted.
