Nagano Tokyu Department Store 60th Anniversary Special Event: Kouta Iwatani Matsumoto Preview Exhibition
Kota Iwatani completed his doctoral studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School in 2021.
While a graduate student, he received the Minister of Justice Award (34th Yume-no-Kai), the Adachi Museum of Art Award in 2023 (78th Spring Inten Exhibition), and last fall, the Adachi Museum of Art decided to acquire his second work for its permanent collection. He is currently one of the most talked-about Japanese-style painters.
His works, which preserve the traditions and beauty of Japanese painting while incorporating contemporary sensibilities and new techniques, have the power to linger in the viewer’s mind, and their depth becomes increasingly apparent the longer one engages with them.
Additionally, you can view the concurrent exhibition “The Current State of Japanese Painting: From Hiroshi Senju to Ayumu Matsuoka.”
Hiroshi Senju and Ayumu Matsuoka are leading figures in the contemporary Japanese painting scene. Together with Kota Iwatani, we invite you to experience the “present” of Japanese painting through the works of these three artists.
