Orchestra Concert: Program A
Nodoka Okisawa and the SKO Perform “Turangalila”
OMF Principal Guest Conductor Nodoka Okisawa will conduct the Saito Kinen Orchestra (SKO) in a performance of Olivier Messiaen’s “Turangalila Symphony.”
The “Turangalila Symphony” is a work with deep ties to the festival, having been premiered in Japan in 1962 by Seiji Ozawa, the OMF’s founder and permanent artistic director, in the presence of the composer. The partnership between Nodoka Okisawa and the SKO—which received rave reviews for last year’s performance of Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”—takes on 20th-century music once again, a performance sure to carve a new chapter in the festival’s history. The program features Keigo Mutokawa on piano, a highly acclaimed artist based in France who performs both domestically and internationally, and Setsu Harada on the ondes Martenot—a leading authority who has performed the *Turangalila Symphony* over 350 times in 20 countries.
